ITV Nightwatch
Nightwatch
ITV 1
Tuesday 11th March 2008
00.30am - 01.30am
Steve Scott presents a show that goes on patrol and on the hunt with police forces across the UK in the never-ending battle against criminals and law breakers. Nightwatch gets closer than ever before to the hard side of life on the front line with Britain’s law enforcers.
Tonight, Bedfordshire Police deal with a group of youths who kick an empty Diet Coke can down Dunstable High Street. A special police unit in Warwickshire spend time sitting in the back of a transit van playing cards whilst waiting for a disqualified driver…who never turns up. In Cumbria Wildlife Liaison officers catch a local man sitting in a bush. The Suffolk Police helicopter is grounded when a warning light fails to go out during the annual inspection of the police observer’s boot allowance claims.
Nightwatch - making Open University Physics programmes look like Rambo 4.

Couldn’t agree more.. although the one on Leeds was quite interesting, it generally just shows how pedantic and infuriatingly power tripped most police are.

I caught Nightwatch the night of Thursday 27th and it was absolutely horrendous.
The police were throwing people in the back of a van for calling them a p@*£k!
I didn’t realise that muutering something under ones breath when a bit intoxicated constituted a criminal offence.
Another guy was thrown out of a club and was explaining his case to a police officer who rather than trying to determine what had happened agitated the guy to the point that he was then thrown into the back of a panda car.
I understand the police have to deal with alot of flak but bouncers basically get a freehand to assault people and are often looked after by the Bill, I’m sure it’s even worse in small town outside London!!

Eddie Rhodes says:
My general opinion of Nightwatch is that it is a very well produced programme with some interesting content. However, I swiftly change channels, or switch off as soon as the subject is related to prostitution, as I’m absolutely disgusted at the attitude of the police towards the paying customers and the willing suppliers of sexual services.
Prostitution is the oldest profession ever known and it’s about time that it was legalised in this country. It is the only way of taking the profession away from the control of the criminal fraternity.
Legalise Prostitution! Make it a recognised business activity and control it medically, financially and most of all, morally acceptable, while maintaining the protection of our children.
I personally believe that there would be no where near as much abuse of children if prostitution was legalised and accepted as a personal service. You only have to look at the old, disabled and other men, AND WOMEN that would never get a partner, then wonder where they can release their sexual frustrations.
I am a respectable small businessman and unfortunately also a widower. However, I have always had this opinion regarding prostitution. When I see and hear the attitude of police portraying men looking for consensual sexual services on ‘Nightwatch’, it honestly makes my blood boil.
There are many more undesirable crimes out there to solve.
