The Metropolitan Police have recently picked up an award, but perhaps not one they were actually after.

The Plain English Campaign have awarded a “Kick in the Pants” award for their use of gibberish & ‘ploddledygook’.

A spokeswoman for the group said they had made the award for the consistent bad use of language in recent years.

It is all the more embarrassing for the Met since they have been corporate members of the Plain English Campaign for several years.

The Met was specifically slated for using the term ‘multiple perpetrator rape‘ instead of ‘gang rape‘ & for naming a department the ‘Citizen Focus Command‘.

The Met said: “We used the expression multiple perpetrator rape because of concerns raised by academics about the perception of the word ‘gang’”.
