Another lost vote

In another case of the tail wagging the dog the law changed recently to allow two lesbian partners to be named on a child’s birth certificate if the birth was as a result of IVF treatment. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 has made it possible for two women to be named on the birth certificate rather than the mother & father.

Clearly designed to magnify the Labour government’s obsession with diversity credentials it means that the birth certificate becomes a work of fiction rather than a legal document recording the parentage of a child. The birth certificate will no longer record the genetic heritage of a child but the names of a couple who happen to call themselves parents at that specific moment in time. When a marriage or parnership between a mother & father breaks up those two individuals are still the mother & father. When a lesbian civil partnership breaks up at least one half has precisely zero genetic connection to the child.

Lord Brett, the Home Office Minister, said: “This positive change means that for the first time female couples who have a child using fertility treatment have the same rights as their heterosexual counterparts to be shown as parents in the birth registration. It is vital that we afford equality wherever we can in society, especially as family circumstances continue to change. This is an important step forward in that process.”

Bollocks! The birth certificate is not & should not be a record of who happens to look after a child, if it were, people who adopt babies would have the right to have their adopted child’s birth certificate changed to show their names as parents, what happened to their “rights”?, oh yeah, they’re not lesbians & therefore entitled to trump everyone else’s rights.

Labour MP Geraldine Smith said: “To have a birth certificate with two mothers and no father is just madness. Common sense has completely gone out of the window. It’s very unfair on the children for the state to be colluding to hide their real genetic parentage“.

The Home Office said birth certificates would now be adapted to show ‘parents’ rather than ‘mother’ & ‘father’.  As far as I’m concerned this is just another nail in the coffin of traditional family values which for some reason beyond me seems to be of no consequence in today’s ‘diverse’ society. The government have removed the words ‘husband’, ‘wife’ & ‘spouse’ in many official forms & replaced them with ‘partner’ all because they don’t want to offend some minority but not giving a flying fuck about offending me & millions of others. I don’t have a ‘partner‘ I have a wife!

There are some things in which equality is necessary & right. Recording someone who is not the mother of a child on a birth certificate is not one of them.
