It could have been so different

Posted in The Job - General by 200

Apparently, a man has been shot in London. Apparently he threatened police officers with a large bladed weapon (some reports are calling it a sword).

Apparently they did what most police officers in this country have to do because they can’t save themselves or anyone else for that matter, from a man who is threatening people with a knife; they retreated and called for someone who did have the right tools for the job.

Apparently the man came at them again with the knife.

Apparently he was Tasered and then shot and is now in a critical condition.

Doubtless people will be calling for protest, civil disobedience and/or revenge.

Nobody, including the people tasked with investigating the incident, will be calling for the police to have the ability to deal with such people off the bat, nor will they be advertising that it was lucky it happened in London, where the highest proportion of armed officers can be found, because if it happened round these parts it might have been an hour or more before an officer suitably equipped to protect anyone on the scene actually arrived.

In America, police chiefs would be queuing up to tell the public that if you try to attack one of their officers with a knife, you can rightly expect to be shot. Over here, police chiefs will say nothing.

    I agree with you 90% 200.

However, this C. Constable views it differently.

I know he didn’t say they would be shot, but he did in so many words.

A breath of fresh air in todays climate I think!

Hope he doesn’t make a recovery. Burial is cheaper than medicine.

After the verdict, Coroner Andrew Tweddle said he would consider making recommendations for changes to police policy.

Among his concerns was a lack of training to deal with crossbow incidents.

Absolutely unbelievable. Where do they find these insects?

While he is on the ball, how about recommendations on dealing with a scrote armed with a Roman short-sword, or someone armed with a Spanish halberd?

Where’s the commenter who said about it being sad to use a gun in anger in response to your child, when you posted the video of the father shooting the daughter’s laptop?

We could really use his take on this to give us another perspective.

Personally I think nothing will chnge until either a high ranking politician, chief justice or executive newspaper editor gets stabbed while unarmed police wait for backup.

Brother Random, the guidelines on use of force as issued to me (by a non-UK, but common-law Force) indicate that if someone comes at me with a knife, I am justified in using my issue firearm to defend myself: one round to the centre of visible body mass, to be repeated until the desired result is achieved.

Oh, and we have found that Taser isn’t consistently reliable enough for us. It doesn’t always produce the required result, when needed.
