I’m not posting today in solidarity with people concerned about the USA government and their attempts to run the internet via their proposed SOPA & PIPA Bills which will see the introduction of the right of large corporations to shut down access to free and legal content under the guise of protection of copyright.

This will have far-reaching consequences to anyone using the internet and not just US citizens.

Like everything else, the law will be used to suppress dissent about a large number of things and not just online piracy, for which a more-than-adequate amount of legislation exists.
For now the act looks dead. But, phoenix-like, it will arise from the ashes under another guise.
Now, what was it people were saying: “they can’t censor the internet”
Looks like they are going to try though.

Why? They’re the ones with the technical wherewithall to get round it, think of the rest of us.

Perhaps the rest of us should start buying senators and congressmen and not leave it to the MPAA and the other TV,film and music companies and trade associations who spent $92 million lobbying last year alone according to the BBC
