Of bolts and horses

So the Metropolitan Police are set to bring their full weight to bear on the Madeleine McCann case.

Does this mean that eventually the McCanns are going to get nicked for child neglect?

Ooh, controversial!!

    Child neglect, yes!

But what do you think, 200, a copper of 30 years experience, of what happened on that night in Portugal?

Not controversial 200 weeks, but highly inappropriate.

  3. Simon says:

I think the McCanns and the friends they were with, conspired to not tell the whole truth.

They neglected their children. I have no sympathy for this pair of hard faced liars.

I do not know the McCanns, and have no opinion one way or the other
My wife worked with Gerry McCann, but does not know his wife well.
She has no doubts as to the veracity of his account, stating that for him to harm his daughter is totally unthinkable.

  5. rafanon says:

Not harming is one thing but leaving them totally unattended is unforgiveable. However, they both have my deepest sympathies because I wouldn’t wish the loss of a child on anyone and I wish them well in their quest.

Complicated. Did the McCanns or one of them ‘do it’? Or were they negligent?
What about Robert Murat the mysterious neighbour who seemed to be a bit too involved (as per landlord Chris Jefferies in the Joanna Yeates murder?
Was it a paedophile ring in which the authorities were involved (as per the Marc Dutroux case in Belgium)?
The Portuguese Police will not be handing over all the investigation papers if they think the Mets will prove that the case has been bungled.
    Frankly, nothing would surprise me.

  8. Ted says:

I don’t believe the McCanns harmed their child.

I do think they neglected them. I never left any of my children alone in a house at that age.

That said they have my sympathy for their loss.

Nothing will bring their daughter back. They will have to live with the fact they exposed their children to danger.

  9. bill says:

I am in total agreement with you, Ted. But what did happen that night?

Let’s hope that the Met. can give us an answer.

  10. jaded says:

The “offence” of neglect happened in Portugal so I don’t think they will get nicked for it over here….
A lot of people on holiday relax thinking there’s no crime in the sunny paradise they are visiting and let their guard down. However I am the opposite.I am out of my comfort zone, don’t know my way around or speak the language.I would NEVER leave my children 100 yards away in an unlocked flat while I had dinner with friends. Highly intelligent people often do stupid things.

  11. Plodnomore says:

Check shujiro’s site for the ‘alleged’ set of questions which Mrs McCann refused to answer. If this is true, then it is of concern. On the other hand, as Portugal is second only to Netherlands for paedophile crime it was only a matter of time for someone’s child……………………..

I suspect that it’s going to be:

    1. Maddie was kidnapped.
    2. Maddie was murdered by the McCs
    3. Maddie was accidentally killed by the McCs and they got rid of her to save careers etc…

There are lots of questions about this case-for me as a parent-I would co-operate with the cops… i certainly wouldn’t go no comment in an interview!

  13. annette says:

I also think she was killed but by accident,
There was talk of them giving her a sleeping tablet?
I think maybe Gerry gave her one and did not know his wife had already given her one. They then got rid of her body, but god knows how they can do that.

  14. Hibbo says:

Totally correct 200. There is no possible way this is not an example of child neglect. I for one would like to see them in front of a judge for it.

Had it been a nineteen year-old single mother nipping out of her flat to buy fags and cider, the reaction of the press would have been rather different.

  15. Eve says:

I have no pity for the McCannes. The children were their responsibility and should NEVER EVER for any reason have been left alone. Im sorry to sound so heartless but had they been a couple from a council housing estate then there would have been no meetings with the Pope, no visits to the White House, no calls from members of the Government. My pity goes to poor wee Madelaine. God bless her wherever she is.
