Darwin inductee?

Posted in The Job - General by 200

It would have been a classic nomination for a Darwin Award (except the pratt didn’t die), when a 25-year-old Ontario, Canada man tried to set his Pitbull dog ion a neighbour.

During a heated exchange between the neighbours, the dog owner got his Pitbull out & told the neighbour that his dog was going to tear him apart. When the dog failed to attack the neighbour on command, the owner began hitting it in an attempt to wind it up & get it more aggressive. Presumably the dog, having more sense than the owner, had enough of that treatment & jumped up biting the owner on the face & arm.

The owner was rescued by a passer-by, but being bitten didn’t stop him punching the neighbour & returning a short while later with a mate & trying to get his dog to attack the neighbour for a second time. Unfortunately, the reports don’t say that the Pitbull had another bite out of its master.

Millions of years of evolution, and this is the best we can do? As a species, we ought to hang our heads in shame, sometimes.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that you can be charged with using a dog as a weapon (or did I just make that up?) and surely at the least the authorities should remove the dog to a better home.

As a retired Police officer it is with great sadness that I nominate more candidates for the Darwin Award. I refer to the Police officers involved in the arrest and charging of Simon Ledger on the Isle of Wight, a pub singer who happened to be singing ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ – a regular part of his repetoire – when two Chinese people walked by and subsequently made allegations of racial harrassment. Instead of using their common sense – something which seems to be lacking in many ranks of todays Police – they apparently used the full power of the Racial Harrassment Act. I wonder what other songs can not now be played in case they offend someone – ‘That Old Black Magic’ (Africans and Carribeans), ‘They’re Coming To Take Me Away’ (mentally and emotionally disturbed), ‘Sheik of Araby’ (People born in the Middle East)? The list is endless, unlike the intelligence in Hampshire Police.
