The Plants should be in the Garden

Posted in The Job - General by 200

I love a good senior police officer embarrassment story.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Rod Jarman had cause for a Doh! moment recently when he rented out his four-bedroom house via a letting agent to a man with a Chinese or Vietnamese name.

He was later alerted to strange noises by neighbours & when he attended he found the house had been turned into a cannabis factory. Police officers will be familiar with the current trend for Vietnamese crime gangs to rent out properties, gut them & turn them into intensive cannabis factories which involves lots of light, heat & watering systems & every room filled with cannabis plants.

The gang in Mr Jarman’s case had run up an electricity bill  of £20,000 & caused almost £50,000 worth of damage to the property.

I’ll be he’s glad he left the fine details to an online letting agency.

It can’t be policing skills that get people promoted to the higher ranks.

I hope he had proper letting insurance as well, or he’ll have to pay the repair costs himself … which would be an enormous shame. My heart bleeds for him.

I wonder how many beat bobbies would fall for that one?

I hope he declared this as a business interest….
Shouldn’t crow really but he was the most unpopular borough commander ever at Southwark….

The usual warning sign is that the prospective tenant wants to pay the 6 months rent in advance. Not sure if that was the case here though….
