It’s OK, we saved some cash…

… by having less than half the normal staff on duty over Xmas.

Nothing ever happens at Christmas after all. Nobody gets killed in a road crash, nobody gets beaten up by a drunken partner before the turkey is even on the table, nobody dies unexpectedly. And when there are only 4 officers to cover the whole division, it’s a great idea to send them out to do arrest enquiries, after all, people are really likely to be home on Xmas day & you can easily reduce the number of available officers from 50% to 0-10% for an hour or two, after all, it’s not like the cells will be full from all the Christmas Eve frivolity, eh?

If you needed the police on any of the bank holiday’s this season, what was the service like in your area?

Well, as we once again managed to celebrate Christmas without the ‘help’ of the local police, I have no idea how well they were staffed – or otherwise. I suspect they’d be thin on the ground, though, since the old ‘money-saving’ excuse spreads far and wide these days.

Sorry, I have to agree with Fee. Though I do not celebrate Xmas per se, we found no requirement to call the emergency services.

As an aside however, while out walking I did have a nasty fall, and can report that the Great British public will offer a helping hand.

I’d like to see more police catching drunk drivers. What are you looking forward to in the New Year?
