Deadly Distractions

Posted in The Job - General by 200

Thirty-year-old model, Kelly Brook, features in a new advertising campaign for Reebok trainers.

The voluptuous female struts her stuff bereft of clothing – apart from said trainers – on billboards across the country this month.

What has a gorgeous, naked woman got to do with this blog? Not enough, but you may well ask.

It seems the Institute of Advanced Motorists are gravely concerned. They say the adverts are certain to cause serious or possibly even fatal accidents as male drivers crane their necks for a close look.

They appear to disregard the danger to lesbians.

Peter Rodger, head of driving standards at the IAM, said: “Some of these ads will be more distracting than others, and some will be placed where the effect is particularly significant. They all add to the clutter pulling your visual attention away from the road and adding to the information you need to process as you drive along.”

I can think of worse sights to leave the world by.

(But no, I wouldn`t chuck her out for eating biscuits in bed. I`d even forgive the odd cream cracker.)

I bought my wife some Reeboks after seeing this poster….bitterly disappointed – she didn’t turn into Kelly Brook. 200, you’re a plod, is that a breach of the Trade Description Act?

The IAM may think these images are distracting. They may have a point in certain circumstances, so the positioning of these posters is important.

HOWEVER, just think of the stress release such posters have on the heterosexual male population (who tend to be the worst drivers under stress).

AS a hetero male, I’m fully in agreement with such images. I’m fairly liberal too; if advertisers wish to show nude males for the women, then so be it. I’m also OK with them showing the relevant nudes for the Gay/Lesbian community.

Why does everything have to be so friggin’ PC?

That does nothing for me. Oh, well, it appears that I’m neither a man nor a lesbian. My husband will be very relieved. If he doesn’t catch sight of one of those posters and crash on the way home, that is!

In the name of equality, I DEMAND a similar shot of … let’s say … Johnny Depp.
