Special treatment

Posted in The Job - General by 200

As I mentioned the other day, I became a victim of crime again this week. I say ‘again’ because we’ve been victims of crime quite a lot round these parts. I’ve had the car broken into twice, had it scratched, had the windscreen put in, had stuff nicked out of the shed and had 2 car aerials nicked. Neighbours have had similar; cars stolen & broken into, paint poured on cars, fuel pipes cut, wing mirrors & hubcaps nicked.

And that’s not to mention the amount of trouble the druggies cause when they congregate in the garage block nearby.

The local old bill only ever come around when drunks at the rented house over the road have a domestic, other than that we sometimes have PCSOs knocking on the door doing house-to-house. I suspect we’re quite lucky in that respect as most victims of crime these days get bugger all, apart from a crime number.

BUT…

We’ve been liaising with the local Neighbourhood Team, and they’ve been liaising with their ‘partner agencies’ i.e. the council, who have agreed to stick up a portable CCTV camera in the street. Apparently it did some good on one of the estates on the other side of town & they think it might help. We’re either very lucky, have the most crime in the town, or shout louder than everyone else who wants petty crime on their doorstep sorted.

We’ll see how it goes (if it ever turns up).

    Slightly off topic I’m afraid:

I think terms such as ‘partner agencies’ and ‘working with partners’ should be banned. We expect the police to work with the HO, or UKBA, or the local council – I don’t expect them to boast about it, it’s what they should routinely be doing!

It’s a similar thing to whichever benighted farce proudly slapped the strapline “targeting criminals” all over their stationary. It’s kinda implied in the word ‘Police’, do we really need to have a corporate motto as well?

The fact is that we in The Job are now forced to do so many things that the public would not recognise as police work that we have to keep reminding them of what we’re supposed to be doing!

Good luck with the CCTV van – although a new local prison and longer sentences would probably help more!

    I’m also off-topic.

Bloggs, what do you think of the latest politico, David Laws, to apparently get found out?

It seems Mr Laws was claiming rent that he was supposedly paying to his boyfriend whom he lived with. (OK pedants, I know it should be “with whom he lived”.) It is alleged that Mr Laws would not have been charged the full rent, but that he claimed because to do otherwise would have revealed his homosexuality.

FFS, he’s a LibDem! This party, to their credit, actually walk the walk when it comes to people who are not part of the norm.

Surely the £40k he claimed ws so excessive that fraud charges should be considered?
