Some Good USA News
Seattle Police in Washington have shot & killed the fugitive who gunned down 4 Lakewood Police, officers 2 days ago. Officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens, Greg Richards & Sgt Mark Renninger were shot & killed as they sat in a cafe.
A seatlle police officer investigating an unattended stolen vehicle became aware of a man nbehind him, turning he immediately recognised wanted killer Maurice Clemmons who made off. Clemmons was ordered to stop but when he didn’t the officer shot & killed him.
Assistant Police Chief Pugel told a press conference that Clemmons was found in possession of the officers firearms. He had a bullet injury to his stomach believed to be inflicted by one of the dying officers who shot at Clemmons as he fled the scene.
Apparently it’s not only the UK that releases dangerous criminals; Clemmons was previously sentenced to 95 years in prison for violence but the sentence was commuted in 2000 & he was released, soon reverting to crime.
Interestingly, when speaking to the press about the shooting of Cremons the following words don’t appear to have been used, “officer suspended” & “IPCC investigating“
Dave says:
I do indeed always find it strange that the majority of senior officers completely fail to support THEIR officers but manage to tell people the IPCC will get the naught Police Officer who shot the innocent man.

This is horrific!
To shoot a fugitive, just like that!
The poor man obviously had mental issues, and the shooting of four officers was obviously just a cry for help.
More research should have been done into his past in order to understand why he had this deep rooted hostility that denied him his proper place in society.
Those Seattle cops are going to feel pretty bad when a Coroner’s report reveals he’d been dropped on his head when he was a baby and that he’d not been responsible for the death of four officers because he was high on crack and pissed up to the eyeballs at the time.
In my opinion, he would have benefitted from a good dose of rough British justice.
A bloody good talking to from a Judge, combined with a few hours community service and an asbo, could have turned him into a decent, responsible, caring member of society.
America, there are lessons to be learned here!

whilst I would say that any violent death should be a concern for civilised peoples- what Melv and Bill seem to have forgot is the actual REASON why this man was wanted? He MURDERED 4-officers. 4-officers with – parents that have lost a child, children that have lost a father and wives that have lost their love.
Looking at this persons recent behavior- do you think it likely he said, ‘ok- its a fair cop… I’ll come quietly…’ ????
mmm… i think it likely he tried to add to his tally- and the Police RIGHTLY shot him…
nice that bill and mtg- mentioned the officers deaths with such care and their families grief… and they have the nerve to suggest others are heartless?

MTG says:
I never called a halt to your celebrations 200, taking the care to concede that whooping would hold no surprises. Crude insults from police have become the standard response to any critical comment from the public and the latter must always be prepared to withstand the most vile obscenities and attempts by officers to discredit them.
Other than in the case of minor offences, punishment has been expressly crafted outside the domain of police. A long evolved judicial process ensures that suspects are afforded a fair trial, otherwise we revert to De Menezes style executions of pre Magna Carta significance.
We cannot allow laxity within, or any shortcircuiting of, a just and fair system. Armed police must exercise considerable care and restraint to avoid any accusation of vigilantism. There must be the most thorough examination of the suspect’s death and until that process is complete, any ‘whooping’ is totally misplaced.
At appropriate times I feel obliged as a citizen to recount the many sad occasions when innocent suspects were executed and circumstances of their deaths fabricated to exonerate officer killers.

MTG – yet again I find myself being drawn in….I have actually been in the situation where i’ve shot and killed someone (in self defence in a war zone before all you rozzers try tracking me down) and in the split second it took to make the decision, I thought of nothing else other than my survival and of those around me. I didn’t whoop but I felt no guilt or shame and i’d do it again tomorrow.
I agree that if the Rules of Engagement are followed then lethal force is totaly justified and in the case we are discussing totaly necessary as, like copper bottom said, the guy wasn’t going to come quietly. He got his comeuppance and that is why people will not be losing any sleep because of the death of this person.
It’s all about context MTG. No one has decided to put the bunting out for innocent victims of wrongfull shootings.
200 – I hope you’re laughing WITH me and not AT me~!lol.

Gutsy Kid says:
I think if the right thing happened with the circumstances, but if it was possible to apprehend the crim without harm we might have been able to discover why he did this, and how to prevent it. Rehabilitation works two ways: stopping the criminal from committing crimes and from preventing these kinds of crimes from happening again.
He may have had a mental illness, for example, and could have been prevented from doing this in the first place. By killing him we kind of lose that information.

simple truth is everyone- OTHER COUNTRIES ARE NOT A STUPID AS WE ARE….
the Police dont enjoy killing people- but if you are met with a person presenting deadly force against someone- you kill them.
All of the above that take the ‘poor chap…’ line…
i would LOVE to see you face his murderous intent- to see if you shoot him or stand by your liberal principles and let him kill you…
whats that you cry? you wouldnt take a life? you wouldnt be in the position where you have to take that call?
ok….
shut up then- and let the people with the cojones to face it deal with it for you.

Adam Birch says:
I’m an ex-pat living in a small town in the US. Our town police force numbers 6, including the Chief. The next town over has a force recently expabnded to number 13 (big city slickers!).
It took a little while to get used to seeing coppers armed on a daily basis, but that’s how i is here and you get used to it.
Here, the police are, generally, appreciated (it’s the scruts who break the law who tend to be leery about ‘em) and are supported by the community. Hell, the coppers actually *gasp* still live in the communities they police. They know the local ne’er-do-wells.
If anything happens to a copper (or three as was the case in April 8 miles away in New Stanton) there’s outrage. The people who contribute to the safety and security of the community are taken to heart.
There’s ne outcry here about the guy who killed the officers near Seattle being killed in turn. Job done.
Just thought I’d provide a perspective from over here.
Cheers!
