Many Happy Returns

Posted in Blogging by 200

(A bit more leave and a recent death in the family have kept me from this blog for a little while, but hopefully, I’m back with a few more posts.)

Well, it’s a Happy Birthday to Me! Two years of blogging and still going.

I’ve not had a visit from the Rubber Heel Squad & the Thought Police up at HQ, I suppose I can be grateful for that.

Isn’t it a shame that we can’t share our thoughts & experiences within the Police Service for fear of being tracked down by a unit determined to stifle what should be our free speech. Such is the paranoia that, to date, I’ve not told a single person that I write this blog. Not a colleague, friend or family.

Maybe when the 200 weeks is finally up I will come out of the closet & really reveal some of the shite that goes on behind the closed doors of Police HQ. To do that currently with a lot of the stuff I’d like to talk about would probably reveal the force in queston so I only really talk in generic terms.

Still, not too long left now.

I’m sorry to hear about the death in your family.
I am also concerned about the content of this blog.
You say you have told no-one about this site? May I ask why?
Surely you wife/girlfriend would never tell on you. Is that what you are worried about?
Your last sentenced bothered me as well….not too long now?????
Please don’t give up your blogging…don’t you find it a release from those pent up feelings? I know I do. I would actually like to blog more but all your hear is anger, anger, anger.
But, to get back to your blog……
You should never be, say we say, afraid to give your opinion about your work, even at work.
I think it is good to get different opinions because then you a wider view of things. You should never be tracked down! We do live in a country where we have free speech…or at least I thought we did.
I sorry to go on a bit but I am rather worried about this blog.

thanks for the comments, I do sometimes wonder if my posts are read by anyone.
I take it you’re not in the police service?
The simple reason I haven’t told anyone about me blogging is because at work walls have ears, I guess it’s the same at any work environment, even the most well kept secrets have a habit of leaking out. Ask the police officers who have been ‘outed’ so far for blogging and either told to close it down or disciplined, or both!
You shouldn’t read too much into the fact that my wife doesn’t know about my blogging. That’s incidental to the reasons for my secrecy. She doesn’t know because I don’t suppose she’s that interested. I’ve always kept my job and my home life separate and have never felt the need to ‘unburden’ myself with what happens at work.

You’re right, we sholdn’t be worried abut giving opinions about our work but, sadly, we have good reason to be. That’s why no police blogger reveals their identity.

Regarding the ‘not long now’ comment, it’s in relation to the 200Weeks title of the blog. When I started the blog I had just around 200 weeks to go until retirement, now I have considerably less time left, that’s all.

Hey, it’s a great blog weeks, I enjoy reading it so I’m sure others do. How long have you got left now? It’ll be great when you get there and can say a bit more of what you want, but most people’s blog are just generic stuff, it shows you’re all in the same boat and dealing with the same problems (the SMT, lol).

Sorry to hear the bad news, and congrats on the good news – two years hey, now if I was nay good at maths I could work out how long you had left, but as you probably know without me having to calculate it I won’t bother – it is not my strong point! Unless curiosity gets the better before you reply, there’s a calculator here somewhere…

    Thanks weeks,
A lot of people read your blogs, they have you on their links.
I didn’t realise that you were near retirement, but you could still blog when you have retired.
No, I’m not in the job but I love reading all your blogs it’s so interesting and you do not realise what you go through.(Paperwork, etc.)

So, please keep up the good work.

    Thanks again.

No Fears 200. It’s one of the best blogs on here. I look forward to reading it.

    Long may it continue.
