More Fodder for the Quarterbacks

Posted in The Job - General by 200

As if the stabbing of a PCSO in Manchester wasn’t enough to re-ignite the PCSO-slagging juggernaut, another one has been injured in Bristol.

A 19-year-old female officer was patrolling a park in the city when she was approached by a man who grabbed her arm and shoved a bottle into her face

Doubtless it will be the fault of the government again and the control room who allowed her to walk about her beat in a public park. Surely if PCSOs were ditched this wouldn’t have happened, yadda, yadda yadda.

Of course ‘we knew this would happen’. We know PCSOs are going to get attacked and injured on duty, the same as teachers, taxi drivers, council officials, shopkeepers and any other section of society you might care to mention. It’s not the fault of anyone other than the people who do the deed. Trying to blame the system on something which is inevitable at some stage is both misguided and ill-timed.

Again, my thoughts are with the officer who was injured.

I totally agree. PCSO’s are here to help the community. Put back something back inti the community that Police officers dont have time to do no longer as the crime and the place we live in now is just getting worse. PCSO’s are not meant to be confrontational, however they are police officers when it suits. Public are all to quick to slag them off but as you dont see police on the streets no more. Who are the one’s they come running to.PCSO’s. There good enough then. I understand they dont carry Batons and Spray but they should be issued with these as things like this are happening to them too often. Not issued to be confrontational but to protect them selves from being hurt, stabbed or even killed. They are all human and as police officers they do want to go home of a night. They are all doing the same job and are all on the same side. I read that the PCSO that was stabbed in manchester didnt have a stab vest on. So what. The vest doesnt protect your neck, or even the face. Just your vital organs. Come on people. If we want this country to be a better place then we all need to start working together and realise that we are all on the same side. Weather your a PCSO or a PC your all human.

Why PSCOs are being used in situations where they’re liable to need everything they don’t get given -batons, stab vests, powers of arrest- is quite beyond me. They’re ideally suited to directing traffic, securing crime scenes and so on, but why put glorified security guards in a situation where the local population is better armed?
